Lorraine A. Sebopelo

PRESIDENT

Lorraine Arabang Sebopelo is a medical student at the University of Botswana who is an aspiring physician-scientist with a special interest in neurosurgery. Her vision is for Africa to overcome the unmet need for neurosurgeons driven first by nurturing neurosurgery interest among medical students. She aspires to be part of the change to achieve equitable expansion of Global Surgery.

Currently, Lorraine is the President for the Association of Future African Neurosurgeons (AFAN) as well as a Research Fellow. Her interests include Neurosurgery, Global health, Global surgery, Global Neurosurgery, and Clinical research. She is also the Student Editor & Ambassador for the International Journal of Medical Students (IJMS) of Botswana, a member of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) - Global Neurosurgery Committee, Reviewer & Associate Editor for Pan African Medical Journal (PAMJ), and member of Society for Neuro-Oncology (SNO).

I am Olaoluwa Ezekiel Dada A medical student at the university of Ibadan, Nigeria. 2021-2022 Visiting graduate student at the department of Global Health and Social Medicine, Harvard Medical School. Past research director at the Association of Future African Neurosurgeons. 2022-2023 Duke University Global Neurosurgery and Neurology Bass Connect student researcher. I am interested in Global Neurosurgery, Neuro-oncology and Medical Education.

Neontle Sakaiwa

SECRETARY GENERAL

I am a 5th year Medical student at the University of Botswana School of Medicine, Gaborone, Botswana. I also serve as an AFAN Research fellow, Country representative (Botswana) and part of the AFAN Communication team.

My Interests include clinical research, neurosurgery, and vascular surgery.

Ebenisha C. Majata

DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS

A 5th year MBCHB Medical Student, at the copperbelt University, Zambia. President of Med Talk Zambia, President of Copperbelt University Cortex Club and passionate about neuroscience.

Emmanuel Mukambo

GRANT DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

Emmanuel Mukambo is a final year medical student at the Copperbelt University School of Medicine. He is a Research Fellow and former Assistant Grant Development Officer at the Association of Future African Neurosurgeons (AFAN). He is also Brainbook Charity Ambassador to Zambia and Deputy Director of Research and Development at Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias in Zambia (ADDIZ). He is also an alumnus of the BeRelevant Leadership Academy and currently enrolled in the Aspire Leaders Program and the Kectil Entrepreneurship and Leadership Program.

He is an award-winning medical researcher and neuro-enthusiast with specific interest in neurology/neurosurgery research and education. He also aspires to develop in areas of health policymaking, leadership and public management. His current focus is strengthening low-cost preventive approaches for pediatric neurodevelopmental disorders. .

Davis Asumtong

CREATIVE DESIGNER

Epienjume Davis Asumtong is a 4th year medical student at the faculty Health Sciences University of Buea, Cameroon with an interest in surgical neuro-oncology. Serves currently as the creative Director at the Association of Future African Neurosurgeons (AFAN) where he also served in the commutation team 2021-2022. He is also currently the Secretary General at Kick Out Cancer Africa (KOCAN AFRICA).

Olabatoke A. Tunde

COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR

Olobatoke Tunde Ayomide is a medical student at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Nigeria. He is a research fellow at the Association of Future African Neurosurgeon (AFAN). He is a research team lead at the Student as Researcher Initiative (STARi) and a member of the Walter Dandy Neurosurgical Club, Nigeria Chapter, Surgical Interest Group of Africa (SIGAF), and others. His ultimate goal is to train abroad to become a renowned neurosurgeon in skull base and spine neurosurgery. His passion for medical education made him a co-founder of Med Ed Tutorials and his love for clinical research has driven him towards learning and volunteering to immensely contribute to neurosurgery and medicine as a whole through quality publications.

Gideon Adegboyega

RESEARCH DIRECTOR

Gideon Adegboyega is currently a Foundation Year 1 Doctor in Cambridge University Hospitals, UK. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees for Incision UK working group and serves on the WFNS Global Neurosurgery Junior Committee. He is also co-founder and advisor of The Neuroanatomy Collaborative Group. He is passionate about optimising paediatric and neuro-oncology care in developing countries.

Erick A. Tangmi

ASSOCIATE RESEARCH DIRECTOR

Tangmi Djabo Eric Adrien is a final year medical student at Bel Campus University of Technology. He is currently the Associate Director of Research for the Association of Future African Neurosurgeons (AFAN) and an international Ambassador both for the Neurology and Neurosuregery Interest group (NANSIG) and the International Journal of Medical Students (IJMS). Adrien is interested in the the field of neurosurgery. Tangmi Adrien is passionate about neurosurgery with the goal of improving access to affordable, timely, quality, health care in Low and Middle-Income countries. This goal led him to become a global surgery, Obstetrics, Traumatology and Anaesthesia (SOTA) fellow working with G4 Alliance.
